The Catastrophe

Here we are, just a few hours to go and it’s October. Before we know it, it’s already December. It’s too sad that even if Christmas is said to be the happiest time of the year, most of us Filipinos would have a hard time celebrating especially the victims of the recent typhoon, Ondoy. The videos I saw are devastating, one could only hope it’s just a movie scene but it isn’t. On a lighter note, I’m so much overwhelmed by the number of people who did so much in order to save, to help. God bless their hearts. Some even sacrificed their own lives to save other lives – may their noble acts inspire those who remain. To the rest of us, may we continue to pray and do our share to help.

New Car

Not mine. A friend from abroad eagerly told me he just bought a new car and he’s planning to buy some push bars for it . He said it would make his car look even sturdy. He loves accessorizing his car that’s why.

Call From Singapore

My college friend just called me and we talked for over an hour. She reminded me that we are supposed to meet in Sto. Nino Church on January next year! Then I remembered – we made a pact some 10 years ago. It was Sinulog - me and her and other friends promised that whatever happens, we’ll meet again in the said church after 10 years. Exciting!

I really have so much in mind to write about a couple of hours ago. Then I got hungry and everything vanished. Stinks!

the 3 sons

Three sons left home, went out on their own and prospered. Getting back together, they discussed the gifts that they were able to give to their elderly mother. The first said, “I built a big house for our mother.”

The second said, “I sent her a Mercedes with a driver.”

The third smiled and said, “I’ve got you both beat. You know how Mom enjoys the Bible and you know she can’t see very well. I sent her a brown parrot that can recite the entire Bible. It took 20 monks in a monastery 12 years to teach him. I had to pledge to contribute $100,000 a year for 10 years, but it was worth it. Mom just has to name the chapter and verse and the parrot will recite it.”

Soon thereafter, Mom sent out her letters of thanks: She wrote the first son, “Milton, the house you built is so huge I live in only one room, but I have to clean the whole house.” She wrote the second son, “Marvin, I am too old to travel I stay home all the time, so I never use the Mercedes. And the driver is so rude!” She wrote the third son, “Dearest Melvin, you were the only son to have the good sense to know what your mother likes. The chicken
was delicious.”

moving out again, well not me

Posted on Sep 28, 2009 under blahs, my thoughts with infos | No Comment

I’ve never left my parent’s house since birth. The longest that i was away from home was for about 2 months only and that was when i was on offshore work assignment. I maybe away for a week the most when i’m on a trip. I had plans of moving out before but i changed my mind. As for my case, i really don’t see the necessity of leaving home. The only advantage would be less travel time for me in going to work. My friends at work have transferred to a lot of different apartments already while i still remain to live in the same house. One of my friends abroad just told me she needed to transfer to another house again. She was glad she was able to keep in touch with an rv towing company as she also has an rv. I’m rather close to my family and i’m comforted every time i’m just home. But someday, i know i have to leave my comfort zone. And while it’s not yet happening, i’d have to savor the moments while i’m still with my folks.

Lift That Spirit Up

Posted on Sep 23, 2009 under poems, straight from the inbox | No Comment

Say it when you wanna be heard
Say it aloud, speak it out
Break some rules if it keeps you out of the blue
No one’s gonna listen til you say it.

Scream if you must
Laugh it out, laugh it loud
Lift your spirit up
Strike out, strike through.

Never stop, never give up
Hop and jump as high as you want
Try and fail, it’s ok than to fail to try at all
To dream is the first step to a higher ground.

Dance with all the joy and feel the beat
Sing those pains out and find relief
Experience is always there to keep
They are treasures that nourish the soul.

Stretch your dreams out and soar
Live free as the wind and explore
Go to the depths and say with much pride
I’ve reached to the heights and I’m happy.

pecans in the cemetery

Posted on Sep 22, 2009 under jokes, straight from the inbox | No Comment

On the outskirts of a small town, there was a big, old pecan tree just inside the cemetery fence. One day, two boys filled up a bucketful of nuts and sat down by the tree, out of sight, and began dividing the nuts.

‘One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me’ said one boy.. Several dropped and rolled down toward the fence.

Another boy came riding along the road on his bicycle. As he passed, he thought he heard voices from inside the cemetery. He slowed down to investigate. Sure enough, he heard, ‘One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me..’

He just knew what it was.. He jumped back on his bike and rode off. Just around the bend he met an old man with a cane, hobbling along.

‘Come here quick,’ said the boy, ‘you won’t believe what I heard! Satan and the Lord are down at the cemetery dividing up the souls.’

The man said, ‘Beat it kid, can’t you see it’s hard for me to walk.’ When the boy insisted though, the man hobbled slowly to the cemetery.

Standing by the fence they heard , ‘One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me.’

The old man whispered, ‘Boy, you’ve been tellin’ me the truth. Let’s see if we can see the Lord..’

Shaking with fear, they peered through the fence, yet were still unable to see anything.. The old man and the boy gripped the wrought iron bars of the fence tighter and tighter as they tried to get a glimpse of the Lord.

At last they heard, ‘One for you, one for me. That’s all… Now let’s go get those nuts by the fence and we’ll be done.’

They say the old man made it back to town a full 5 minutes ahead of the kid on the bike.

family bonding

Posted on Sep 22, 2009 under blahs, my thoughts with infos | No Comment

Yey! Got to enjoy another long weekend last week. Yesterday was a non-working holiday, the last one for the month of September. Sad to say, there’s no holiday on the month of October!

My family and relatives went outing at the beach last Sunday. It was a post birthday celebration of my younger sisters. It’s seldom that we get to have this family activity. Good thing the weather cooperated and everyone had a good time at the beach. My aunt was worried about leaving the motorcycle since nobody was home. I think it’s high time she should get some motorcycle covers especially now that it’s rainy season.

I’m thinking of organizing an island hopping next year, my family loves the beach so much. My father sure had a great time! (He grew up in Camotes Island, pretty explains why he loves the beach.) I will post photos in my other blog next time. :)

theme parks

Posted on Sep 17, 2009 under blahs, my thoughts with infos | No Comment

Cebu is said to have the best of both worlds: bounty of nature and the comforts of city life. The province is surrounded by beautiful beaches ranging from public resorts to high end resorts. But if there’s one thing that Cebu is lacking, it’s the theme parks where kids and adults alike could enjoy. Maybe it would be nice if there are some water parks with pond pumps installed. I don’t think there is one though some hotels have this thing on their lobbies or gardens.

Anyways, tomorrow’s a Friday and i’m meeting a friend for lunch. Well, not just me but me and my colleagues are meeting a former colleague who’s here for a vacation from Singapore.
