I love everything that’s old:
old friends, old times,
old manners, old books,
old wine.

Oliver Goldsmith

Call me an old person or showing signs of getting old, i wouldn’t care. For i really miss the old times, the old CE group. I miss dearly the good old CE group. I miss the great CE team. I miss my old friends. I miss hanging out with them. I miss all the good times together. I miss everything… Sure, i got my new friends, they’re equally warm and nice but i’m missing the charm of the old ones…

news flash!

Let me share this great news… great for us employees, bad for the employers. Hehe. :D

The public can look forward to two long weekends in November.

Through Proclamation No. 1669, Malacañang has declared November 1 and 2 (Sunday and Monday) as special non-working holidays in observance of the All Saints Day and All Soul’s Day, respectively. [See: Malacañang issues list of 2009 holidays]

The second long weekend will be on November 27 and 28, which will fall on a Friday and a Saturday. The declaration was in connection with the Filipino Muslims’ celebration of Eid al-Adha or Feast of Sacrifice. [See: Arroyo declares Nov. 27 and 28 as holidays]

Eid al-Adha, known as the “Greater Eid, is the second major Islamic festival, which marks the end of the Haj (pilgrimage) for the millions of Muslims who make the trip to Makkah (Mecca) in Saudi Arabia each year. The other festival, Eid al-Fitr, marks the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

Eid al-Adha, is in commemoration of Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) willingness to sacrifice his son for Allah (God). It is celebrated by an estimated 1.6 billion Muslims all over the world, including the 10 million Muslim Filipinos in the country.

The declaration of these dates as national non-working holiday will allow more Filipino Muslims to go to Makkah in Saudi Arabia for a pilgrimage.

November 30, the following Monday, was also declared as special non-working holiday in observance of Bonifacio Day. Aie Balagtas See, GMANews.TV

Yah! Friends from abroad - eat your hearts out! :D

best subjects

Posted on Oct 23, 2009 under blahs, my thoughts with infos | No Comment

I’d say i was an average student. Had i studied harder, i know i could be more than average. I was good in math then except for trigonometry which i hated in 4th year highschool. Even more in college, it belongs to my least favorite subjects. But i was pretty good in science. I can remember how i memorized the scientific names of the family of plants and animals. But i can’t remember if we were oriented on diseases which can be caught from asbestos dust like the mesothelioma perhaps. It doesn’t matter anyway because i ran when we dissected a frog in fourth grade. Yeah, i also remember i memorize very well the capital cities of each country around the globe and its currency. But that was before, ask me now and i’d refer you to google or wikipedia. :D

I just remember how i learned to read the clock. My mother made a clock out of used carton (most likely milk carton) and would patiently move the hands of the clock and ask me each time she does it. I thought that was really sweet and resourceful of her. :)

she’s getting a new car!

Posted on Oct 23, 2009 under blahs, my thoughts with infos | No Comment

Owning a car is quite not a necessity in the country. We have lots of means of transportation. But of course it would be nicer if you drive your own wheels. It’s probably tiring but it will get you to your destination anytime you want to. While i don’t have a car myself, i’m helping my friend find some auto insurance quotes because she’s thinking of buying one. I’m all support of course, i’m gonna be hitching ride from her! I’m not sure yet what she’s getting because she’s still confused. If i had the money, i know i’m never gonna be confused, for all i want is anything that runs and comes in pink! LOL! Yah, and that’s coming from someone who works in an automotive industry. Sshhh! :D

weight loss rants

Posted on Oct 20, 2009 under blahs, my thoughts with infos | 1 Comment

Again and again, i will be ranting about how to loss weight effectively. I hope somebody could just tell me and attest to me that the best diet pill available in the market really works! Seriously, i have to loss weight. I’m about 12lbs overweight and the people around me don’t fail to tell me that! At home, my mother is so persistent that i should exercise because she said i look horrible! Well, can’t blame her, i myself can’t stand the sight of my belly fats! LOL! I just wish i’ll do something and not just whine. Arggh how annoying.

Saturday 9: Inside Job

1. When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I knew that i wanted to wear those mini skirts and blazers. Everytime my lady neighbors who worked in banks and offices would pass by, i would always admire them. I wanted to look like them. I can imagine attending meetings complete with a perfect hairdo and an amazing suit. Everytime i went to Colon and passed by the banks, you know what i’d do? I’d always peek at the glass walls and watch the people inside. I wanted to become a CPA Lawyer.

2. Did you ever pursue that career?
No.

3. If you are not in that field, what changed?
It’s a long story and besides i thought that accounting classes were boring when i wandered in the commerce building during enrolment. Hehe!

4. What is your current job?
I’m an Electronics and Communications Engineer and is currently working as a Software Validation Engineer.

5. What’s the best part of what you do?
Well, it’s not the best job in the world but if you’re an inquisitive type, you’d enjoy it.

6. Do you have plans to do something else down the road?
I’m not certain yet, let’s just wait and see.

7. How did you get your present job? If you are a stay at home mom, how long did you need to plan that move?
I just hand in an application letter after the board exam, i got called, took the exam, got an interview then hired.

8. Did your parents influence your choices of jobs over the years?
No.

9. What advice would you give your children on careers?
Choose the one they’re passionate about. Choose the one they’re smart about. Armed with that, excelling should be easy.

the bagpiper

Posted on Oct 13, 2009 under jokes, straight from the inbox | No Comment

It’s still a boring Tuesday out here… here’s a joke i got from my inbox some days ago.

***
As a bagpiper, I was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man who had no family or friends. The funeral was to be held at a cemetery in the remote countryside and this man would be the first to be laid to rest there.

As I was not familiar with the backwoods area, I became lost and being a typical man, did not stop for directions. I finally arrived an hour late. I saw the backhoe and the crew who were eating lunch but the hearse was nowhere in sight.

I apologized to the workers for my tardiness and stepped to the side of the open grave where I saw the vault lid already in place.

I assured the workers I would not hold them up for long but this was the proper thing to do. The workers gathered around, still eating their lunch. I played out my heart and soul.

As I played the workers began to weep. I played and I played like I’d never played before, from Going Home and The Lord is My Shepherd to Flowers of the Forest. I closed the lengthy session with Amazing Grace and walked to my car.

As I was opening the door and taking off my coat, I overheard one of the workers saying to another, Sweet Jeezuz, Mary ‘n Joseph, I have never seen nothin’ like that before and I’ve been putting in septic tanks for twenty years.

i’m crossing my fingers

My mother as always never fails to remind me or to comment on how big i am already. When we’re watching TV together, she’d always say that i should do this, do that, drink that, eat that, etc. Remember i told you we had plans of doing morning jogs every Saturday but it has never happen yet. I’m reading about some diet pill reviews because i’m considering taking one. But she insisted we should go to the city gym every Saturday and join the taebo sessions just like my cousins. And i just keep on telling her yeah we’ll do that next Saturday. You bet too many Saturdays have passed and nothing happened. But i know my mother will not give up on me if she still sees my unsightly belly fats. Haha.
